Earn Money From Garbage

February 6th, 2008

Why do you think people who are living near dump sites stay there even if it smells unpleasantly? Same thing all people need, money. I’m not saying I’m living near dump sites, but we actually gather things that aren’t used anymore and sell them to junk shops.

Today, my mother and I borrowed a truck for those garbage we gathered to be disposed. We just put all things that we think junk shops will buy and off we go. As we arrived to the nearest junk shop, the owner’s reaction is like “wow, that’s lots of garbage for a house” hehe. Anyway, we segregated them so that they will be weighed according to their prices. I never thought those garbage made us P2,265 (almost US$60). That’s already a lot for just a bunch of garbage.

What does Junk Shop buy?

These are few things that I remembered that you can sell to junk shops.

Plastic – PhP14/kilo ($0.35) Only plastic that’s unbreakable is accepted by junk shops. Plastic chairs, mineral water bottles, plastic gallons, yakult bottles etc.

Metal – PhP11/kilo ($0.270) Anything that sticks to magnets belong to this category.

Glass Bottles – PhP0.50/pc ($0.125) Tanduay Jr., Sr., Lapad, Ketsup bottles etc.

Alloy – PhP65/kilo ($1.625) Alloy tubes usually used for antennas and sorts. Doesn’t stick to magnets.

Brass – PhP100/kilo ($2.5) Example of brass is Faucets, water pipe nuts. Most of it are brass.

Bronze – PhP200/kilo ($5) I think you already know what bronze are. Mostly wires.

Those are some of the garbage junk shop buys. Just don’t mind what others are gonna say about you collecting garbage, you will earn extra money out of it. Collect small garbage and put it in your backyard or something, then sell it if you collected enough. Money is hard to earn these days, don’t be so picky on how you earn your money. At least you are working hard to earn some. I’d rather collect garbage to sell than steal for easy money. It’s all about managing your solid waste.
