How To Get Your Static IPv6 Address

As I was discussing the IPv6 Launch on the last post, IPv4 is depleting rapidly these days and the forecast is IPv4 addresses will run out this year. The upgraded version of the Internet Protocol addresses is IPv6, and not all ISPs offer it yet. PLDT DSL doesn’t give any IPv6 addresses yet, only Globe Telecom offers IPv6 addresses in the Philippines as of today.

How Do I Get an IPv6?

Simple, it’s called “Tunnel Brokers”, which enables you to reach IPv6 internet by tunneling over existing IPv4 connection from your IPv6 enabled PCs and laptops. Globe Telecom is very kind enough to be the first IPv6 tunnel broker in the Philippines but the speed isn’t that fast.

There are a lot of tunnel brokers out there (FREE), just ask Google and you’ll find many. The ones I know of is, Globe Telecom, HE.net and Freenet6 and here’s how:

Globe Telecom: (Windows)

Step 1: Create an account on Globe’s IPv6 Service.

Step 2: Download and Install gogoCLIENT on your machine.

  • gogoCLIENT Basic: (Recommended for Beginners)
  • gogoCLIENT 1.2 Windows Installer 32-bit
  • gogoCLIENT 1.2 Windows Installer 64-bit
  • gogoCLIENT with Home Access
  • gogoCLIENT with HomeAccess 1.2 Windows Installer 32-bit
  • gogoCLIENT with HomeAccess 1.2 Windows Installer 64-bit

Step 3: Configure gogoCLIENT to connect to tunnel.ipv6.globe.com.ph

Step 4: Enter your username and password and then click Connect

Step 5: Test IPv6 connection with http://test-ipv6.com

HE.net: (Windows)

Step 1: Register at HE’s Tunnel Broker.

Step 2: Create a tunnel. HE will recommend the server closest to you, so you just have to click Create Tunnel.

Step 3: Click Example Configurations

Step 4: Choose your OS. In my case, its Windows 7

Step 5: Run Command Prompt as an Administrator

Step 6: Copy & Paste the commands given by HE. (Click to enlarge)

Step 7: Test IPv6 connection with http://test-ipv6.com

Freenet6: Windows

Step 1: Register Freenet6′s IPv6 Free Service.

Step 2: Download and Install gogoCLIENT on your machine.

  • gogoCLIENT Basic: (Recommended for Beginners)
  • gogoCLIENT 1.2 Windows Installer 32-bit
  • gogoCLIENT 1.2 Windows Installer 64-bit
  • gogoCLIENT with Home Access
  • gogoCLIENT with HomeAccess 1.2 Windows Installer 32-bit
  • gogoCLIENT with HomeAccess 1.2 Windows Installer 64-bit

Step 3: Configure your gogoCLIENT’s server to authenticated.freenet6.net.

Step 4: Enter your username and password and then click Connect

Step 5: Test IPv6 connection with http://test-ipv6.com

And you’re done!

The best tunnel in my experience is Freenet6, it just flawlessly works and I recommend you using their service, plus the speed is awesome.

Test it with www.v6.facebook.com and have fun!
